JULY 6, 2014: EPIC BATTLE WITH HOLLYWOOD FINISH SEES UI STORM TAKE PROVINCIAL 'A' CUP:

The Storm's only goalkeeper, Maddy Whiting, was injured the day before with a broken nose and a concussion, and was not able to play in the final match against the Delta Coastal Selects. Defender Bronwyn Kirk stepped up to the goalkeeping position. After the full 90, the game was scoreless, so extra time was needed. Rachael Baird was taken down in the box in the second period of extra time, and Emily Shires drove the penalty home for the first goal in the game. But then Delta scored with a heart-breaking two minutes left in extra time, which meant penalties were required. Storm penalty takers Emily Shires, Aiyanna Grubac, Megan Dial, and Sydney Goodwin all slotted the first four penalties for the Storm team. Bronwyn Kirk saved Delta's 5th penalty, leaving Rachael Baird to score the Storm's 5th and final penalty to secure the win and claim the championship. A fantastic finish to a great tournament and a very successful 2013-14 season. Congratulations, Team!
